The FSSAI License, granted by the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), is a crucial permit for food business operators in the country. Operating under the Ministry of Health, this government authority mandates the acquisition of a license for all food-related businesses in India.
This includes even small
establishments like tea stalls. FSSAI operates under FOSCOS, offering three
types of licenses based on factors such as annual turnover, production
capacity, and business nature. Upon approval, a 14-digit license number is
provided to the food business operator, which should be displayed on product
packaging and prominently at the business location.
